UNS S32760 (F55) is a super duplex high-performance steel with a 50:50 two-phase austenite, ferrite microstructure. Supplied in sheets, plates, bars, tubes, and pipes, Super Duplex offers the benefits of Duplex steel with increased nickel, chromium, and molybdenum for excellent resistance to pitting corrosion. Additional nitrogen supports structural hardening, increasing the yield strength.

F55 Super Duplex is approximately twice as strong as regular stainless steel and offers higher toughness and ductility. The corrosion resistance of F55 makes it ideal for many applications when subjected to extremes of heat and cold, particularly in stressful or corrosive environments in the marine, oil and gas, sewage treatment, and chemical processing industries.

What Are The F55 Super Duplex Properties?

Due to its superior strength and high resistance to crevice and stress corrosion, F55 Super Duplex provides significant cost-effectiveness over its lifecycle when used in harsh, corrosive conditions. It is, therefore, particularly well-suited for a variety of applications, including undersea oil and gas piping, seawater piping in desalination plants, subsea flowlines and manifolds, submerged components, and propeller shafts. It is also commonly used in chemical processing equipment, cylinders, pumps, valves, and precipitators.

Super Duplex achieves a unique combination of high strength, good elasticity, and superior corrosion resistance. Supplied in an annealed condition that offers yield strengths of at least 80 KSI (550Mpa), S32760 F55 can be strengthened by cold working, as heat treatments to harden the surface are ineffective.

With a Pitting Resistance Equivalent of more than 40 and high resistance to crevice and stress corrosion, the properties of F55 Super Duplex make it a superior choice over austenitic stainless steel and duplex stainless steel containing 22% chromium (whereas F55 contains 25% chromium). Cost-efficiency over the lifecycle of the product is likely to be superior to austenitic or ferritic stainless steel, as corrosion is minimised, so that costly repairs and replacements are avoided.
