UNS N07718 (also known by the Special Metals Corporation trademark Inconel 718) is a high-strength, corrosion resistant nickel-chromium alloy which can be used in the temperature range -250°C (-420°F) to 700°C (1300°F). It can be easily fabricated to produce complex components, while its resistance to post-weld cracking makes alloy 718 a popular choice for a variety of applications. Excellent tensile, creep, fatigue and rupture strength also contribute to its suitability for use in harsh environments.
At Broder Metals Group, we stock alloy 718 in two forms:
1) Alloy 718 API6A CRA
Alloy 718 API is supplied in a range of sizes from ½” (12.7mm) to 8” (203.2mm) diameter round bar, with larger key sizes also available. Our alloy 718 meets API 6A CRA and NACE MR0175 so is well-suited for use in corrosive environments, particularly in the oil and chemical industry. For solution treated and precipitation hardened material, the yield strength is in excess of 120 KSI (827Mpa).
2) Alloy 718 AMS 5663 / ASTM B637
Alloy 718 AMS 5663/ASTM B637 offers high yield, tensile strength, and corrosion resistance at exceptionally high temperatures. We supply this material only from approved sources in the UK, Europe and US, with full traceability and certification. Available sizes range from ½” (12.7mm) to 7” (177.8mm), although we can also convert to your specific size requirements.
Alloy 718 applications
Initially developed for use in the aerospace industry, alloy 718 is the first-choice material for a variety of aircraft engine applications, due to its superior strength and corrosion resistance. In aircraft manufacture and aerospace, alloy 718 is used for jet engine components, liquid-fuelled rockets, wheels, spacers, buckets, and high-temperature application bolts and fasteners.
In the oil industry and power generation, alloy 718 is typically used in choke stems, tubing hangers, and fasteners. It is also found in valve applications, and Broder Metals Group has a large number of valve manufacturers among our customer base, including several who have stocking agreements with us to ensure continuity of supply on short lead-times.
