N50 (Nitronic 50®)

N50 (Nitronic 50®) is an Austenitic Stainless Steel added Manganese (between 4-6%) and a higher Chromium level compared to standard Stainless Steels.  This provides very good general and stress corrosion cracking corrosion resistance, especially in Chloride-containing environments like Seawater, while providing a doubling of yield strength compared to 316L.  N50 does not become magnetic when cold formed and retains good mechanical properties at both elevated and sub-zero temperatures.

A high strength version of N50 (approximately 70% yield improvement over the annealed version) can be provided on application.

Applications:  N50 is ideal for Offshore and Marine environments (applications include Pump and Valve Components, Shafts and fasteners), Petrochemical, Pulp & Paper, Food Processing and Petroleum industries. Can also be used in “down hole” applications due to the material’s sulphide stress cracking resistance.

Delivered condition: Material can be supplied either in the annealed or high strength versions.

Heat Treatment: Annealed

Size range: 25.4 – 160 mm ø (1 inch to 6.299 inches)

Weldability:  good and similar to that of Austenitic Stainless Steels and can be welded using conventional arc welding processes. Preheat and post-weld annealing are generally not required for welding Nitronic 50.
