N60 (Nitronic 60®)

N60 (Nitronic 60®) is an Austenitic Stainless Steel. Increased content of Silicon and Manganese over AISI 304 and 316 Stainless provide significant enhancements of yield strength over those grades (between 1.5 and 2 times greater). However, in addition, N60 is known for its wear and galling resistance, and maintenance of performance in temperatures up to 1000°C. 

The material’s general corrosion resistance is between AISI 304 and 316 stainless, and offers better Chloride pitting resistance, stress corrosion cracking resistance and crevice corrosion resistance than AISI 316L stainless. Higher material strength is attainable through cold working of the material, with no reduction in its anti-galling performance.

Applications:  Applications include Valve Stems, Seats and Trim, Fastening Systems, Bridge Pins, Bushings and Roller Bearings, Pump Shafts, Rings, Wear Plates, Rail Guides, Pins and Hanger expansion joints for Bridges.

Delivered condition: Annealed

Heat Treatment: Annealed at 1066°C followed by water quenching.

Size range: 22.2 mm – 59 mm Ø (0.874 inches to 2.323 inches)

Weldability:  restricted compared to other alloys due to its austenitic nature and higher strength produced by cold working.  The material requires careful heat input and control to maintain desired properties.
