EN 1.4418

S165M is a high strength, Low Carbon Martensitic/ Austenitic / Ferritic Stainless Steel. It has good fatigue resistance and is suitable where strength in a mildly corrosive environments, such as hydraulic applications, is required.  Weldability is good, and properties are maintained after welding.

Note: there are two minimum tensile levels available: QT760 and QT900, although the former is more often preferred – QT900’s corrosion resistance is comparable to that of AISI 304L in most environments, however, it is insensitive to intergranular corrosion and has far superior strength (YS of >700 compared to >205 MPa).

Applications: 1.4418 is often used for mechanically and corrosively stressed components, such as water turbines in the Chemical Industry, and particularly for Pump Shafts, Propellers, Spindles, and Bolting in the Automotive and Aerospace industry.

Delivered condition: Quench & tempered, either peeled or ground.

Heat Treatment: Austenitize and quench from 550 – 620 °C.

Size range:

Peeled K12: 41 mm – 410 mm ø (1.614 inches to 16.142 inches)

Ground H9: 10 mm – 140 mm ø 0.394 inches to 16.142 inches)

Weldability:  Good,
