Titanium Grade 2
(UNS SR50400)

Titanium Grade 2 is a commercially “pure” form of Titanium bar (Titanium content over 99%).   With a density of approximately 50% that of Nickel Alloys and Stainless Steels, the material has moderate strength combined with excellent corrosion resistance and formability.

The corrosion resistance is particularly relevant to chemical processing as it is highly resistant to oxidizing, neutral, and mildly reducing environments, including chloride-containing media.  The material also resists alkaline media, organic acids and compounds, aqueous salt solutions and hot gases.

Its corrosion resistance is maintained in liquid metals, nitric acid, mildly reducing acids and wet chlorine or bromine gas. In seawater, Grade 2 is fully resistant to corrosion at temperatures up to 300°C.

Titanium grade 2 is non-magnetic.

Common Specifications: ASTM B348 / UNS SR50400 / ASME SB348 / 3.7034 / 3.7035 / AMS 4902 / MIL-T-9047 / NORSOK M630 / M650 / NACE MR0175/ ISO 15156

Applications: Chemical processing, exchangers and cryogenic vessels for valves, heat exchangers, marine applications, medical implants, and general engineering components.

Delivered condition: As rolled, stress relieved or annealed.

Heat Treatment:  stress relieved at between 900°F and 1100°F (482°C – 593°C), followed by either slow cooling or forced air cooling or annealed at temperatures between 1200°F and 1400°F (649°C – 760°C) for a specific time, followed by air cooling.

Size range: 10 – 300 mm Ø

Weldability: Readily weldable provided inert gas shielding is used to prevent embrittlement
